I have always found matters concerning etiquette fascinating. Different customs, traditions and pillars of decorum vary widely across cultures and I love learning about them. (I guess you could say I’m a closet enthusiast of cultural anthropology. And maybe I’m feeling inspired after having read The Help.) Needless to say, in our need-it-now, “Sorry I’m Facebooking!” I’ll-tweet-you-later world, manners have been left by the wayside. So why should we care? Etiquette makes social situations easier to navigate. Furthermore, having good manners is key to showing and gaining respect. By knowing what’s uncouth, you will be more confident in yourself and likely more adored by others! And who doesn’t want to be liked?
In a nutshell, etiquette is a set of social rules adopted by a society or culture over time (Thanks, Emily Post!). Most rules are simply known, while others are documented. Ladylike LawsRemember all those books we read before starting school? “It is not okay to poke your friends in the eye or kick them in the shins as a means of hello.” Most likely, we wouldn’t know this unless we were taught otherwise. The bottom line here is etiquette sets the norm for how people treat each other (and want to be treated). It’s the unwritten “How to Interact with Other People Guide for Dummies.”

Lauren Conrad and Derek Hough added fuel to the fire of dating rumors by partying together – very closely – in the back room at L.A.’s Trousdale Lounge. Though they were with friends – she had Lo Bosworth with her, and he was hanging out with Mark Ballas – they mostly spent time with each other. They even hit the dance floor, where Hough had his arm around Conrad’s waist. “It was obvious there was a lot of chemistry between the two,” an onlooker says. “She was very smitten.” So smitten, in fact, that they shared some smooches. Says the onlooker: “Neither seemed embarrassed about kissing in public.”

Lauren Conrad More Halloween Costume Clues

Aside from Lauren Conrad showing every one of her Twitter followers how to paint their fingernails to resemble candy corn, the former The Hills star turned fashion designer gave yet another clue about her Halloween costume.
Or in Lauren Conrad’s case two Halloween costumes. Lauren posted the following, asking her Twitter following to guess what she was doing:
Can you guess what I’m being for Halloween?
Of course this tweet led to Conrad’s blog, where she posted a photo of red fabric with white polka dots. The photo’s caption read:
This year I am making two Halloween costumes… This is the fabric for one of them. Can you guess what I am going to be? XO Lauren
Interestingly enough, several fans chimed in with the iconic Minnie Mouse. Actually, Lauren would probably make on sexy Minnie. A few hours later, Conrad also posted a how-to link to help her fans paint their fingernails to resemble a candy corn:

Talk about someone who is really getting into the Halloween spirit, 20 days early! Congratulations to Lauren Conrad though for designing and making her own two costumes instead of “outsourcing” them to someone else.
Lauren Conrad Hangs With Derek Hough but Says She’s “Single”

We’re on to you, Lauren Conrad.
While she told E! News yesterday afternoon she was single, guess who she turned up with a few hours later at a hotel in Hollywood? Her rumored paramour Derek Hough…
“[I'm] single, having fun” Conrad said at yesterday’s Veuve Clicquot polo match at Will Rogers State Park in Pacific Palisades.
She continued having fun later that day at the third annual Haunted Hayride kickoff event in Griffith Park with pal Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
But then it was time for some Dancing With the Stars hotness.
The maybe-couple was spotted outside the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel chatting with friends, including Hough’s DWTS pal Mark Ballas, according to X17. Although there was no major PDA, Conrad and Hough left together hand in hand, hopping into a white Mercedes and taking off with Hough behind the wheel.
A source close to the couple says, “They are cute together.”
Hough, 26, avoided talking about his love life last week when E! News asked him about Ms. Conrad.
Dancing With the Stars’ Derek Hough Dances Away From Lauren Conrad Rumors

Derek Hough is a sly one.
After Monday night’s Dancing With the Stars, he hit the aftershow carpet for the usual interviews with partner Ricki Lake. And since he’s recently been attached to the adorable Lauren Conrad, we decided to innocently ask him about a possible romance. His reaction?
A little sidestep spin move around the question! Seriously, we’ve seen countless celebrities dodge dating questions, but even we have to admit this one was pretty good. In fact, he even went so far as to mention how he was photographed with another lady to throw us off. Unfortunately for him, the giddy smile Ricki gives her partner after we mentioned L.C.’s name was more than enough proof that something is probably going down between Hough and the former Hills star.
And hey, if Conrad ever makes it to a taping of the show to support her rumored new beau, maybe she and old nemesis Kristin Cavallari can talk things out and finally bury the hatchet.
Yeah, right.

Yup, I just got word that…
There’s a romance brewing between the Dancing With the Stars hoofer and former queen of the Hills. “They’ve been on a few dates together,” a source says.
Just last night, the two raised eyebrows when they hit Jason Scoppa’s weekly live music show at the Sayers Club in Hollywood.
“They were pretty cozy. Definitely playful and flirty,” reports a fellow clubgoer.
How so?
“They were close to each other,” the source explained. “He had his arm around her waist. They were dancing and also holding hands.”
When they left, the paparazzi snapped away, but the two didn’t stand too close together. A big burly security guy also stood in front of them to try to block the shots.
Conrad most recently ended a long relationship with actor Kyle Howard in June, while Hough was linked to former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole.
Reps for Hough and Conrad didn’t comment.

She’s been playing the field ever since her breakup with Kyle Howard back in May, and Lauren Conrad may have found a new man. The “LA Candy” author was spotted flirting up a storm with “Teen Wolf” hunk Colton Haynes at the HTC Status phone launch on July 20th. According to an insider, “She was into him, and vice versa. They went to a club afterwards,” but a pal of Conrad claimed, “They are friends and have known each other forever.” Meanwhile, and eyewitness saw Lauren and Colton exchange phone numbers before they left, a sure sign that they hit it off.

It’s official: they’re dunzo.
After three solid, drama-less years of coupling up, E! News has exclusively learned that former reality starlet Lauren Conrad has amicably parted ways with actor Kyle Howard.
Sources close to the now ex-duo confirm that the breakup was a mutual decision and that no third parties were involved.
The 24-year-old fashionista and budding beauty mogul (who, incidentally, just earlier this year was denying rumors that the couple had secretly gotten engaged) had been dating the 33-year-old My Boys actor since 2008.
Don’t worry, Lauren. There’s plenty of other fish in the
seahills.
