Lots of Love for Lauren – One on One Interview
Written by Eric on July 23rd, 2010

If you are anything like us, you have been a big fan of Lauren Conrad, once known as “LC” on Laguna Beach and you sported TEAM LAUREN tees from Hollister. But now, our Lauren is all grown up and has so many amazing things going on in her life — from life after The Hills to her new collection, Kohl’s line and latest books — Lauren Conrad is a name you just can’t forget.

How has life been since The Hills?

It’s been great! It’s always a little scary to make a big change like I did when I decide to leave the show, but I don’t regret it one bit. Since I’ve left I’ve discovered a new love… writing! I have had such an amazing experience writing my novels and touring the country for signings. It’s been an exciting year and I’ve learned so much.

Also, I have been having such great time working on my Kohl’s line and have been blown away by the support I have received. Fashion has always been what I have loved to do and I feel so fortunate to be working with such a great partner. Aside from that, I have really enjoyed having a personal life and the opportunity to do a little traveling. All and all, I’d say it’s been a great year.

We just finished reading your second book, Sweet Little Lies (HarperCollins) and of course, it kept us wanting more — How did the idea of your LA Candy Series come about? Was writing something you have always been interested in?

The concept of the LA Candy series was more of a compromise than an original thought. I was interested in writing a dating book (sort of a what-not-to-do for someone who’s made all of the mistakes) and HarperCollins wanted me to write a tell-all about The Hills. Since I wasn’t comfortable revealing the secrets of others we began talking about a fictional series. This way I could tell the story of a journey similar to the my own without calling anyone out…but still include insider knowledge from someone who’s lived it.

How are the books [related] to your personal life – was that the inspiration?

I wrote from experiences and I also based characters on a compilation of people I had met in my life but the books aren’t real life. I had a ton of fun playing make-believe.

In Her Own Words: Lauren Conrad’s ‘Sweet Little Lies’
Written by Eric on February 4th, 2010

LAUREN CONRAD MAY have left “The Hills” when she departed the MTV reality show in May, but that doesn’t mean glittery, glitzy Los Angeles is totally behind her. In fact, it isn’t — that world is splashed all over the pages of her latest novel, “Sweet Little Lies,” which hit bookstores Tuesday. In June, Conrad stumped all her haters with her best-seller, “L.A. Candy,” which introduced readers to a group of pretty young women who became reality stars thanks to a show on the infamous network PopTV. So, you know — her rise to fame, but on paper. “Sweet Little Lies” is the follow-up to “L.A. Candy,” yet another thinly veiled account of Conrad’s life, as her main character, Jane Roberts, deals with the hardship of being young, rich and famous. Conrad is stumping for her book like any mortal, but its 309 pages basically tell us everything there is to know about her life, no interview required.

» EXPRESS: What’s the most blatant example of you injecting yourself into the novel?
» LAUREN CONRAD BOOK EXCERPT: “Sweet, natural and vulnerable, [Jane] was a person everyone could relate to. She was pretty, but not too pretty. She liked to go out, but she didn’t like to get wasted or do drugs. She worked hard. She was loyal to her friends. She came from a close-knit family.”

» EXPRESS: Does anyone else from “The Hills” make an appearance as a fictional character in this new novel? Say, just to pull a name out of the air, Heidi Montag-Pratt?
» LAUREN CONRAD BOOK EXCERPT: “Madison was the perfect cliché, with her dyed-to-the-max platinum hair and penchant for shopping, partying, and guys. But she was constantly bugging Trevor for more airtime; so far, he’d managed to keep her at bay with carefully worded compliments on the theme of ‘quality over quantity.’”

» EXPRESS: What will people learn most about your rise to fame from reading the book?
» LAUREN CONRAD BOOK EXCERPT: “Jane remembered then that the cameras were still rolling. … This was what Trevor had told her to do when they spoke on the phone last night, wasn’t it? … Trevor’s suggestions … were simply meant to help shape the girls’ conversations while they were on-camera. To make things more interesting for TV. After all, they couldn’t just sit there and talk about nothing, right? Right?”

‘L.A. Candy’ Novel, ‘Sweet Little Lies’ Goes On Sale Today
Written by Eric on February 4th, 2010

It’s a big week for former “Hills” star, Lauren Conrad! The reality star-turned designer-turned author’s second book, “Sweet Little Lies” hits shelves today.

The new novel, which is part of her “L.A. Candy” series, takes main character Jane Roberts on a ride through the ups and downs of being a full-fledged celebrity. In the book, Jane learns the drawbacks of being in the public eye when racy photos of her are leaked on the Internet, and she winds up in a major fight with her best friend. Hmmm, now why does that sound so familiar?

Lauren has promised that any similarities to her own life and her book series are purely coincidental, but the storyline does sound like something we’ve seen before. If you haven’t read the first book, we’ll briefly fill you in. As “LA Candy” opens, the book’s main character, Jane Roberts, was an ordinary girl next door until she and her best friend landed a reality series — and drama ensues. The first novel, which hit the NY Times Bestseller list, is also being adapted for the big screen.

Though Lauren decided to abandon her own reality series, she is definitely not out of the spotlight. These days, she’s working hard on her writing career and hitting the road for a book tour which kicks off tomorrow in New York City (check out the Harper Teen site for a full listing of tour dates).

Lauren also celebrated her 24th birthday yesterday, and tweeted: “Had a cupcake for breakfast today :-) I love birthdays.” It looks like life is pretty sweet for this star. Congratulations, Lauren!

Will you be buying a copy of “Sweet Little Lies”?
